Right out of the gate, I must say that this is one of the oddest topics we have addressed in some time. Some will say that it is not a "doctrinal" issue, but I beg to differ. If the issues and events discussed on this site come to fruition, then it will end up being one of the most important doctrinal issues of the modern age...or not.
Let me explain:
I was channel surfing a few weeks ago and happened to come across someone talking on the History Channel about Francis Crick. Crick was a brilliant man and one of the lead molecular biologists that discovered the structure of the DNA molecule. As a Christian, his statement intrigued me. The speaker claimed that Crick had said, "I don't care if you say the Earth is 4 billion years old, the human genome could not have developed on its own in that amount of time. It's mathematically impossible." Chalk one up for Intelligent Design. But wait...the program immediately cuts away to one of its host/commentators who chimes in, "Therefore this is just further proof that we were put here on Earth by Ancient Aliens."
After picking my jaw up off the floor and scratching my head for a few moments, I finally convinced myself that I did hear what I thought I heard. I went on to watch the rest of the program ("Ancient Aliens") and I was hooked. Not just by some of the outlandish conclusions that were being drawn, but also because of the sheer amount of compelling evidence they were presenting. I was certainly not agreeing with everything they were saying, but they were raising some pretty valid questions.
If you are familiar with the Ancient Astronaut/Alien (AAA) Theory, you are probably also aware of the classic legends that they purport as evidence. The Pyramids, the Nazca Lines, crop circles, ancient cave drawings and the like. Obviously they are reaching on some topics, but they have some very legitimate questions in some areas. But therein lies the crux of the problem. There will always be mysteries. There will always be perplexing issues that will leave the door open for armchair forensic analysts to draw their own conclusions and bolster their personal agendas (i.e. selling books, movies, etc.).
So I felt compelled to take a look at these theories from a Christian, or Biblical perspective. Can there be a "biblical perspective" on the Ancient Alien/Astronaut Theory? Let's start with Genesis and follow up with a quote from Jesus Christ:
Genesis 6: 1-12
“Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…
12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man…”
So what was going on in the days of Noah that was going to be going on when Jesus returned (the “days of the Son of Man”)?
Violence was the main issue. God said that the earth was “filled with violence.” We think of violence as fighting and killing and such. But the root word is violation: “Doing that which is inappropriate.”
So what was going on that was so inappropriate? All we have to do is look at verses 1-4 of the sixth chapter of Genesis. The sons of God are almost always referring to Angels. In this case fallen Angels. Jude refers to them in Jude, verse 6, “And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.”
So with all the wild claims of alien abduction, and artificial insemination and the like, could this be what we are seeing today. A resurgence of those types of “violations.” The indication is that the aliens are not creatures from another planet, but fallen Angels from another dimension.
In the video above, Ben Stein interviews Richard Dawkins, a well known evolutionist and Atheist.
In this interview, Dawkins broke with his adamant perspective that only Darwinian Evolution could have been involved in the process of human development, and admits we could have been seeded here by Ancient Aliens.
